MPP pushes for municipalities' right to zone locations for renewable energy

A rookie Conservative MPP, Todd Smith (Prince Edward-Hastings), wants to give municipalities the right to set rules on where green energy installations can be located by introducing a private member’s bill in the Legislature on Monday.

This could be good news for locals who have strong opinions on where renewable energy sources (such as wind turbines and solar panels) should be located in the community.

LEED 2012 To Add Real-Time Reporting

The push towards sub-metered real-time energy monitoring has begun... Next summer, the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED rating system will add new requirements to better reflect how LEED buildings actually save energy and water and how they can improve by implementing real-time reporting. Sharing data so that other commercial real estate owners can compare their energy use is now going to be required. USGBC already uses an online database called the Green Building Information Gateway...

Toronto Hydro Seeking 5% Rate Increase

If you thought the cost of electricity was based solely on consumption (kWh) or peak demand (kW), think again. There are numerous charges added to each bill that account for expenses your local utility company incurs, including: smart meter charges, administration fees and delivery / distribution. This week, Toronto Hydro announced they will increase the rate to renew their aging system that is undergoing chronic failures.

OPA Introduces Energy Reduction Incentives
