Retro-Commissioning (RCx)

What is Retro-Commissioning and why is it important?

RCx is a systematic quality assurance process used to review operations of existing facilities with the objective of bringing building systems back to their original design intent. 

The purpose of RCx a building:

1. Improve the building’s energy efficiency through low-cost, no-cost operational improvements (mostly control changes) while maintaining required Indoor Air Quality
2. Find and repair operational issues to restore building to original performance
3. Educate and train building operators and maintenance staff how to monitor and analyze building performance data to ensure the equipment is running optimally
   

RCx facts:

1. A number of studies have shown that RCx buildings can lead to significant energy savings, between 5 to 30%
2. Simple payback ranging from 3 months to 3 years
3. A number of measures addressed by RCx relate to our inability to control the building operations
